Behind the Scenes: How Mocha Pom Became a Social Media Star

Mocha Pom has been on social media since 2015 but it definitely didn’t start out the way it looks today.

I first made Mocha an Instagram account back in 2015. At the time, it was mostly photos and just for fun but always loved sharing her. She had a personality that translated so well on camera and I enjoyed capturing that.

From Photos to Video

For a few years, it was mainly photo posts on Instagram. In 2018, a friend encouraged me to start posting videos instead. I started experimenting more with video and posting more frequently.

TikTok and the First Viral Video

In 2019, we joined TikTok. At first, we were just posting little videos of Mocha, figuring things out as we went. Then one video went viral.

That first viral video gave Mocha Pom a boost and after that, more videos started taking off too. Before we knew it, Mocha was appearing on people’s feeds all over the world.

TikTok ended up being the first platform where Mocha really blew up, and from there, her videos began spreading across Instagram as well.

YouTube Came Later

We didn’t start posting Mocha Pom’s videos on YouTube until 2022. Once we did, it didn’t take long for her to take off there too.

Within a year, Mocha gained over 2 million subscribers on YouTube. Today, she has over 4 million subscribers on YouTube and over 18 million followers globally across all platforms, making her one of the most followed dogs on social media.

Where Mocha Pom Is Today

Since that first viral moment, Mocha Pom’s journey has continued to grow in ways I never imagined in the early days.

She’s caught the attention of celebrities who follow her, worked on major campaigns for some of the world’s biggest brands and movie studios, and helped promote some of the most watched films globally. Along the way, Mocha has also partnered with pet companies from around the world, collaborating on campaigns that reached millions.

As her community grew, so did the ideas behind Mocha Pom. What started as sharing cute videos led to the launch of Mocha’s own plushies, and more recently, her own grooming line Sirius Alpha by Mocha Pom, created with the same care and attention that’s always gone into sharing her online.

Today, Mocha Pom is followed by millions of people around the world but at heart, she’s still the same little dog who first appeared on Instagram back in 2015.
